The Learning Commons, located on the main floor of Collins Memorial Library, is a place where University of Puget Sound students, faculty, staff and affiliated users may access information, research a topic, and learn, using current technology and the help of knowledgeable library staff.

Software programs and applications on the Learning Commons PCs are accessed via vDesk. To launch a program through vDesk, click the "Start" button and then scroll the list of available programs or use the search option in the bottom toolbar.
Programs and applications on the Macs are accessed from the desktop. To access programs via vDesk on the Macs, you will need to go to https://vdesk.pugetsound.edu and login to vDesk manually.
What is vDesk?
Puget Sound's virtual desktop, vDesk, provides anytime, anywhere access to a wide range of software and tools, including Microsoft Office and discipline-specific applications such as Mathematica and SPSS.
What does this mean?
Once you have installed the vDesk plugin on your laptop or personal desktop computer, you can simply login to vDesk (https://vdesk.pugetsound.edu) using an internet browser from any location and access all programs on vDesk, as well as your files saved on your Puget Sound (Alexandria) drive.
For instance, if you are working on your laptop from home and need to access SPSS, all you need to do is login to vDesk and open SPSS.
