Accessibility and Accommodation in the Library: Converting to OCR

This guide describes library services and accommodations for users with invisible and visible disabilities.

Convert Scanned Documents to OCR

If you have a scanned or image-based article or book chapter, you can convert it into selectable, searchable, and editable text using Adobe Acrobat on the Macs located on the main floor of the library.

  1. Open a PDF file containing a scanned image in Acrobat.
  2. Click on the Edit PDF tool in the right pane. Acrobat automatically applies optical character recognition (OCR) to your document and converts it to a fully editable copy of your PDF.
  3. Choose File > Save As and type a new name for your searchable, editable document.
