Using RefWorks

RefWorks is a tool designed to import references from multiple databases and automatically format your papers and bibliographies in a variety of style guides, including Chicago, MLA and APA.

  • To access RefWorks, enter your personal login name and password. First time users need to sign up for an individual account. 
  • For tips on how to import citations into RefWorks from different vendors/databases, go here.
  • Make sure you turn off any pop-up blockers

A separate tool you can download from within RefWorks is Write-N-Cite. It works within WORD and allows you to cite references within your paper. If you open it from the desktop icon or the Start menu, it will automatically open a copy of Word for you.

A Word of Caution! Always verify that the output from RefWorks matches the latest requirements of the style.  Also check for missing data in the output.
