Digital Services Guide: Getting Started

Digital Services Team

The library's digital services encompass a variety of services that support, Scholarly CommunicationsOpen Education Resources, and  library's unique Digital Collections.

Scholarly Communications support includes assistance with supporting our users with information about open licensing and also finding openly licensed materials.

Open Education Resources efforts are aimed at increasing awareness and adoption of OER in the university's classrooms. We support work related to creating new and customizing existing OER, and support those seeking to locate and utilize OER for instruction.

Digital Collections reflect a wide variety of resources housed on three primary platforms:

Sound Ideas

Sound Ideas represents the scholarship and creative works of the faculty, staff and students of the University of Puget Sound. Sound Ideas, organized and made accessible by Collins Memorial Library, demonstrates our institutional commitment to helping enrich the global academic community through sharing and collaboration.

As the University's institutional repository, Sound Ideas provides a space to openly share your research. Faculty members who are unsure about what a publisher's license permits in relation to posting work on personal websites or institutional repositories can contact their liaison librarian for a consultation.

In addition to acting as a repository for previously published faculty work,  Sound Ideas also hosts journals, conference proceedings, student research, and more.

Funding to Pay for Open Access Fees

Some journal publishers allow authors to pay article publishing charges (APCs) for individual articles to be fully Open Access. Fees vary, but can be onerous at times. The Associate Dean's Office facilitates opportunities funding opportunities for faculty members seeking Open Access or other publication fees.
