For the Spring 2021 semester, Collins Library is offering a hybrid approach to services and this guide provides an overview.
All students have access to the following:
- Virtual research assistance via appointment and email with Collins Library liaison librarians.
- Online Resources: Collins Library provides access to hundreds of thousands of online articles, books, and reference resources. Electronic resources can be accessed via Primo and our nearly 300 databases, with guidance provided through our many subject and course research guides.
- Ability to request, via Primo, scans of print materials owned by Collins Library, within the limits of copyright law.
Students who are on campus may additionally:
- Schedule space for individual study in selected areas of the library whenever the library is open, using a seating reservation system.
- Request print books and media in the Collins collection or in SUMMIT, via PRIMO, for pick up in the library lobby. (Book stacks remain closed to non-staff for reasons of health and safety during the pandemic.)

Six Ways to Get Help with Your Research!
Collins Library offers several ways to get research help, depending on your needs.
- Schedule a virtual research consultation with a Collins liaison librarian.
You can find the liaison librarian for your course or subject area on the library research guides.
Best for: In-depth, customized assistance with any stage of the research process.
- Work with a Peer Research Advisor.
The peer research advisors offer both virtual drop-in hours and virtual consultations by appointment during the fall and spring semesters.
Best for: students in the Seminars in Scholarly Inquiry and other introductory courses.
- Consult the online research and course guides and/or the Remote Library Services and Resources guide.
Best for: course- or subject-specific suggestions for research resources and strategies.
- Contact the Ask a Librarian 24/7 chat service.
Staffed with library professionals from around the country, this service provides basic support and assistance.
Collins librarians follow up with students to make sure their research needs are fully addressed.
Best for: Brief or general questions that need a quick response or are at hours when Collins librarians are not available.
- Email firstname.lastname@example.org for help with the digital offerings of Archives & Special Collections at Collins Library.
- Not sure who to contact? Email email@example.com and your query will be directed to the most appropriate library staff member for a response.
Off Campus Access to Resources -- Troubleshooting
The library's online resources (databases, journals, books, streaming media) are available wherever you have access to the internet. Remember to always go through the library's web site! You will be prompted for your Puget Sound username and password to gain access. Read more about Off Campus Access.
